As a beauty business owner, we must keep our finger on the pulse of what our clients want. This includes the spa therapies they desire to look and feel better as well as the products they want to take home.
In this DIY age, many of our clients are willing to invest in spa-grade at-home devices. For most clients, this means completing between-treatment maintenance at home by using devices we suggest to them to provide instant lift, glow, and smoothing for date night and special occasions.
The esthetician tools below help you build a business that’s as glowing as your client’s skin when they walk out the door!
Your clients aren’t just looking to resolve their skincare objectives, they’re looking for a safe place to share. They book with us to explore their options in non-surgical anti-aging solutions or are looking to resolve rosacea, hyperpigmentation, adult acne, and other skin conditions. These are sensitive topics they may not discuss with their best friends. They’re entrusting us to empathize with their concerns, explain their options, and provide realistic expectations.
The better our listening skills the greater the likelihood of building long-term client relationships, and glowing referrals. Sometimes this means gently inquiring about areas of opportunity that deliver benefits beyond your client’s initial request.
Listening is also essential to meet each client’s evolving skincare needs.
With the exciting advancements in professional-grade skincare devices, you must not underestimate the importance of utilizing hands-on techniques. Facial massage is increasingly underestimated, but it’s an esthetic skill I incorporate in every spa treatment.
Adding a few minutes of neck, shoulder, décolletage, and face massage during device-free spa facials improves circulation and helps products better penetrate the skin. It also eases the tension clients hold in their jaw and face, helping them relax.
Feel free to add another mini shoulder massage while their face treatment sets to elevate the treatment.
Before you begin with the beauty device your client has booked, take a few minutes to massage their face. This will help you identify fascial adhesions and areas of tension you can’t feel without your hands.
Just a few minutes of massage increases circulation. This increased blood flow improves the efficacy of your treatment and prolongs results.
With over 300 lymph nodes in the neck, face, and head, keeping lymphatic fluid flowing is essential. Due to decreased natural circulation from the neck up, lymphatic fluid can build up. This buildup contributes to aging puffiness. We can massage to release stuck lymphatic fluid, rapidly depuffing the face and neck.
Ask your clients if they want you to explain how to utilize some of the hands-on techniques you’re using for tailored self-massage. Maybe even share a few head and neck stretches that stretch fascia and promote circulation.
It’s ok if sales isn’t your strong suit. Focus less on sales and more on providing meaningful solutions.
In addition to listening to your client’s specific skincare objectives, ask lifestyle questions that impact their skin and fascia health. This will help you tailor their spa treatments and at-home care, while soft-selling products and services.
It’s surprising what you can uncover during general conversation. Be particularly mindful of repetitive motions and activities that positively or negatively impact the skin and fascia.
I once had a client who carried a lot of tension in her upper chest. When I asked about her daily life, I learned that she spent several hours driving per day. Knowing this helped me understand where I’d spend more time massaging and releasing to maximize her results.
I had another client who was a librarian. She noticed her face began aging rapidly in the last few months. We discovered that her face sagging intensified when she stopped reading to children as part of her job. Think of all the crazy faces we make when reading to children. She was exercising her facial muscles without realizing it. When she stopped she came to me and we addressed it through massage and Microcurrent.
LED therapy isn’t just a trend, it’s an essential esthetician tool. Think beyond your treatment room to your retail inventory. Single-modality LED devices are some of the easiest at-home skincare therapies. This makes LED devices an easy soft sell.
LED therapy is considered safe and effective for most and addresses a range of anti-aging and skin care objectives. Devices are easy to use solo and the treatment time is short. Clients can set their device on their desired treatment area and sit back and relax.
I have two LED devices that I sell (retail and wholesale) and use during treatments. Using a product device during treatment helps clients understand how easy they are to use.
The Glow Younger TriLight LED Device is my most versatile option. At 5 inches long and 2.75 inches wide, this powerful device is easy to use on large treatment areas. This includes the face, neck, décolletage, and other areas of the body. It’s packed with 120 LEDs, delivering a high enough concentration of therapeutic light to treat each area in just 3 minutes!
Although large, it’s lightweight and rests comfortably on your client’s skin. It’s durable so it travels well. I’ve dropped mine many times, and it’s still going strong!
The Glow Younger TriLight delivers:
The Omnilux Contour is my preferred flexible mask. It truly contours to the treatment area and delivers results in just 10 minutes 3 times a week. In addition to being one of my top picks for airbrushing your skin, it’s available in a face mask, hand mask, and neck and décolletage mask.
The Omilux Contour delivers red light and near-infrared light.
Without UV protection, anti-aging skincare products, and targeted treatment, this ultra-thin skin gets crepey and wrinkled. Add to that poor posture and heads-down electronics use, “tech-neck” develops—in some as young as their teens! Tech neck is a combination of fascia strain, muscle tension, lymphatic buildup, and repetitive motion neck creases. Clients can lay back and relax while the Omnilux rejuvenates their neck and décolletage.
With the combination of handwashing, hand sanitizers, and UV exposure, the hands age faster than anywhere on the body. Your clients will love that the Omnilux hand mask can smooth crepey skin, fade liver spots, and soothe joint pain. This includes joint pain from texting, gaming, and typing.
If you’re in the market for a new multi-modality device, the Time Master Pro is one of my favorite anti-aging tools. It’s truly the strongest handheld lifting and toning device I’ve tried. For efficiency, I use two at a time to accelerate treatment.
The Time Master Pro combines ultrasound, EMS, and LED. Clients love that they can feel the treatment working on their skin and see the lift in their face and jawline after just one treatment. The gentle ultrasound vibrations deliver a rejuvenating plumping effect in areas of lost facial volume.
Instantly lift and tone by applying the treatment across vectors. Vectors strategically cut across areas of common facial sag. The ultrasound vibrations and EMS strengthen these weakened areas for same-day rejuvenation.
The Time Master Pro delivers:
